I Don’t Get It | U.S.S. Mariner

I do get it Dave, The Mariners added a bat that they needed. The Mariners Slugging this year is near .200, Kotchman has been horrible and Branyan might hit another 15 homers this season or more for the Mariners. The Mariners can still turn this around. I know that 1995 is a once in a decade thing (see 95 Mariners and 2007 Rockies) but maybe it could happen. Then again realistically the Mariners are not only out but if they play .600 ball the rest of the way, they will win around 83 games. Which will make them at least respectable. Remember this is the team that all they had to do on the last game of the year was to loose to get Steven Strasburg, and they ended up winning.... I am happy the Mariners Front Office cares about winning :)

Could you imagine...

2011 Mariners

1. Felix Hernadez
2. Cliff Lee
3. Eric Bedard

That would kill! The best thing for the Mariners to do now is to keep Lee. We could get two draft picks if we can't get a good offer. I would love Lee to stay in a Mariner uniform and try to sign him in the off season. He is a great pitcher. Last nights game was amazing. He was 0-2 on 19 batters...19 BATTERS! Lee is a bone-fide #1 starter. There is no way we can get equal return on Lee. Keep him Jack Z!

Mariners Blog | Mariners finally riding a hot streak, but yes, still too late to keep Cliff Lee here | Seattle Times Newspaper

Geoff Baker is an idiot. His blog is worthless and I wish he was covering another team...seriously.

The Mariners need to keep Lee, and resign him. He is worth 18-20 million over 5 years. If Jackie Z signs him, he will be a hero.

Mariners | Former Mariners problem Carlos Silva has revived career with Cubs | Seattle Times Newspaper

Crazy, Carlos Silva now throws in a lesser league. He won his first 8 starts before loosing his last two. The cubs have been fantastic on days when Silva pitches...it is just ironic that we trade him away and he thrives. Silva was a cancer in the club house and was reported in 2008 as to wanting to beat up Ichiro because of his selfish play. I disliked Silva more than dislike Jose Vidro. I dislike both because of there performance but moreso because of Silva as a teammate and the downfall of the Bill Bavasi era. It will take years until the Mariners will be good again...years

121 Batters

Yes, 121 batters have hit more homers than our top two home run hitters (Milton Bradley and Mike Sweeney) sad, sad, sad :(

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/sort/homeRuns/count/121/qualified/false

28-41 Seattle Mariners

Well, I am back :) and this time for good.

The Mariners are 13 games under .500. Ichiro is having one of his typical top 5 career seasons. Cliff Lee and Felix have proved to be a 1-2 punch. Bradley had a meltdown... Griffey retired.. Snell was demoted to AAA after clearing waivers.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, the Mariners still can't score runs. They are now 28 out of 30 teams in Runs Scored. For Runs Scored against they are 13 best in the Majors ( roughly Average). The Mariners have no farm, they have no future.... I ask again, did we miss anything while I was gone... ????

Doug Fister, I just became a fan :)

I had a long car ride home from the Puyallup area and I had enough time to listen to 950 KJR. I was listening to Ian Furness's show (the 1-3pm) show and he had several Mariners on. Right before I was getting home he had Doug Fister on. Fister talked a lot about how he is learning and how positive this ball club is. He also talked very highly of Cliff Lee and Ken Griffey. I am not sure if this kid is a politician or not but he seems like a right fit (personality wise) for this Club :)

Fan Graphs Mariners Drafts 2006-09

I found this article very interesting. First thing thou,

the organization scored a major victory with the best pure hitter in the draft in Ackley. He should move quickly in the system and could even be in the Majors by the end of the season, depending on the club’s needs. The outfielder had a nice debut in the Arizona Fall League where he hit .315/.412/.425. If we’re looking for negatives, he did strike out 19 times in 20 games. With just one homer, he also showed why his bat profiles better in center field than first base.

Ackley is projected to be a 2nd Baseman, not a First Baseman or Center Fielder. He was first baseman in his Junior Year because he was recovering from Tommy John Surgery. I don't think that he will have the power to be a 1st Baseman. If he has the rang then I see him displacing Jose Lopez at 2nd Base.

I also found that the 2006 draft was the 2nd best draft since 2001, the biggest problem thou is that we traded all the arms away. Morrow went to Toronto, Tillman is in Baltimore along with Butler. Basically the Bill Bavasi Mariners will rapped  in the 2008 trade of Eric Bedard. With the Morrow trade thou, we got Brandon League who should project to do better the next couple of seasons. Morrow has more upside but he also is a more risky player...

Mariners sign Tom Wilhelmsen to a Minor League Contract

The Mariners have signed 27 year old Tom Milhelmsen to a minor league contract. Milhelmsen has been out of baseball since 2005. He made a brief comeback last season with the Independent Golden League Tucson Toros. Milhelmsen used to be concidered one of the Brewers top Pitching Prospects in 2003. He has had drug abuse problems in the past and will probably start in Class A and stay in Extended Spring Training.

Tom Milhelmsen is from Arizona and was drafted in the 7th Round of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft.
